Where is a good place to live in or near Shanghai, China? My wife and I (plus 2 children) are moving to China next year for his work. We live in a 5bd/3ba in Marietta, GA now, but I would find a home Nice 3bd/2ba condo style thats Shanghai comparable equipped. I realize space is a premium, but we want something decent without having to travel too far from work and things to do. We intend to go expats, so we have some advantages. So what are the possibilities of work for me (I am a manager at Wal-Mart)? What is the average cost of furniture (sofas, bedrooms, TV) and utilities? We were once again entertaining the idea of living in downtown Atlanta, but the cost of a condo decent runs a small fortune. Is there really useful websites that will help us examine rentals, furniture, travel expenses, etc.? Try to be as accurate as possible so that we do our pre-move trip, we go quite ready with some personal advice.
I lived in China for four years and was in Shanghai at the condo of my friend last weekend. I live in Beijing travel ... biz. Apartments In any event, the richest and most modern, you will find in Pudong, and expect similar prices to run many large cities in the states ... My friend has a nice condo with 2 bedrooms, but a nice small but nicely furnished / decoration / modern, with statuettes, et al. all in the court ... really nice place actually ... they have a little market well and pay 3500 RMB ... 500/months U.S. plus utilities ... they are about 20 minutes from the famous Bundt / LU Nanjing, etc.. (I assume you have researched ?)... In any case, you'll probably watch 750-1000 U.S. / month if you are just arriving and having children. Some places are very luxurious, heated floors, etc. ..
China is changing. You'll like Shanghai is a city that happens ... safe, clean, (yet to be built in some areas) ... traffic can be a nuisance ... and there are lots of cafes foreign / restaurants where you feel like a taste of home ...
Come to Beijing, if you're lucky (airfare and rail China / overnite train are both highly developed and modern and cheap) You certainly will not regret it!
What am I a tourist guide? Tips? Try to learn the language ... just for the practical things ... and then build from there ... makes things much easier and you get a sense of self-esteem. In addition, from N. America, keep in mind while you live here that China is a country of 1.3 billion dollars and it has only been in development for 25 years ... Although Shanghai is about as modern / cosmopolitan as it comes ... esp the West. and certain rural areas are still a lot of work. This is not the West. Have a great experience.
PS near Shanghai ... Suzhou is a beautiful city by about one hour journey as Wuxi and Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province ...
murallla China in the ... es buen lugar UN
theres a greater possibility that you will be placed in Puxi, the larger half of the city. thinner people live there.
If you want your children to attend an international school, the American school in Shanghai is the best choice. there is a section Puxi and Pudong to accommodate those who live on both sides of the River.
If you wish to live near this school, there is the Shanghai Racquet Club and the manor of forest in a walk around 5min of SAS. Moreover, they are both filled with strangers. CBC buildings are not too big, but they have great facilities. Forest Manor have very large expensive homes are beautifully designed inside and out. Most people who live there to buy a membership in a club with the CBC for recreation and sports. a walk 2 minutes from SAS Rancho Santa Fe, and are currently builing another set of apartments. Rancho Santa Fe is the Spanish-style houses that are also very large, definatley not so great as Forest Manor, but also very beautiful.
However, for some time away from downtown and shopping. L.
