Short North Apartments

I'm looking for a response from someone who knows the area. I will be bringing children there, so it should be a safe place. I am not opposed to houses ... I'm looking for the lowest rent while continuing to pay varies enough to remain above dangerous and run apartments and regions. Any info / advice would be appreciated.
