What is the cost effective activities for one year for 73 seniors living in the District of Columbia? My grandmother has been retired for almost a year and begins to feel bored and slightly depressed by his daily routine. My grandmother retired due to health and is very careful about the activities she will do. She showed no interest in the ideas I have suggested, im hoping that someone out there has any better ideas that arent necessarily expensive or too left the field.
pet sitting is a fun thing to do. It can be home and have fun too .. volunteering in a library, or church would be easy for her ... it could start a club, bingo club cards, scrabble club at home or at church. crafts and donate to a good cause. make baby clothes for poor mothers ... Discover the top local clubs and show what they offer, let go and get ... I am retired and I'm pet sitting for cats and small dogs. birdhouses make them and sell them or make a game of cards once a week [500 rummy]
It would be helpful to know your state of health of grandmother and the limitations it places on it. Would also be useful to know the ideas you suggested to her.
Anyway .... Does she have neighbors that are close to her age she could meet and socialize, play cards or simply have a cup of tea.
How about a main center in the region.
Maybe you could give them a call to see what is available in its neighborhood. I'm sure they can give you many ideas.
Maybe she just needs to feel she has a purpose. Has she considered volunteering at the hospital or nursing home?
Is there a group for seniors it could join?
Join the YMCA, it can get a membership based on their income. They will never become someone because of financial reasons.
It may enroll in courses for seniors and have a sense of belonging somewhere.
There must be a continuous service that deals with the elderly?
OK, seniors like cards, dominoes, and talking. In addition, a pet would give meaning to life. She will complain so much about all my ideas! I am old so I would too, but in reality it is a good pet and a home group. I trust this old man!
I live in the Washington area, too. I wonder if she could volunteer at the Smithsonian or the White House visits. I worked in the National Mall during festivities specific and is so rewarding to talk and help tourists.
