Benny the Bull coming out of retirement? again IEAH Stables is good for real sport. I know that the horses came out of retirement before, but not in recent memory.
This is ESPN dot com.
International Equine Acquisitions Holdings Stable originally announced that Benny the Bull has been retired to stud and will be in 2009, after the son of Lucky Lionel suffered a bullet to the right front ankle while training in Grade 1 Forego at Saratoga in late August. But Iavarone, IEAH's main partner, said the intention of eventually bringing Benny the Bull back to the races again outbreak several weeks before the awards on Monday night.
"After reviewing the Benny Bull, Dr. [Larry] Bramlage said he felt his injury had healed sufficiently and he could return to 100 percent more," said Iavarone. "We have actually made the final decision to bring it back two weeks ago and decided to wait until tonight to announce the ceremony. But on one condition: he has won the Eclipse. If he wins, we wanted back to defend the title. If he had not won, he would have stayed in retirement. Fortunately, Benny won the recognition it deserved to be appointed by the champion. "
Do you guys think it's a good idea? IEAH is doing something wonderful for the races, leaving the race Benny Bull again or are they making a selfish decision and put the health of horses at risk? they have many posts in place? hey maybe Big Brown will be next, lol jk. This, combined with the analysis of all the horses of their voluntarilly shows they really want to do his best for the sport and whats are they just trying to make a name for themselves? What are your thoughts?
I think people have focused on the IEAH bloodstock market and thought that this is not the right time to try to get the horse started at stud.
Benny the Bull is a tough sell as a stallion, even with his championship. He was unraced at two and won one race at three, and did not win the issues until he was 4. It was not a standard "pedigree - his father, Lionel Lucky stands for only $ 2,500 in Oklahoma, and his pedigree on the female side is just not really a commercial interest.
standards now, are not even proven to have an easy time to complete their books. Benny the Bull would be a tough sell for over $ 7,500 live foal in the current market. I think the numbers Iavarone Economically, it makes more sense to keep the horse in training and hope to the standard market does better than to send the horse to stud and have struggled to fill his book. Once the horse goes to stud, he is his own: he must have offspring that struck the running races in sufficient numbers to keep his name on lists sire, or he is toast.
Do not get me wrong, I'm glad the horse is staying in training, but I'm more cynical about the motivations of Iavarone. Benny the Bull is not just a hot stud prospect currently on the market.
I am very happy with IEAH. Jess Jackson, Curlin speech after winning outright old horse was very good, pointing out that older horses are the ones keeping fans in sports. IEAH follows this line by reducing their champion sprinter.
I do not think they bring the horse if he is still injured. In fact, the article says he is back in training in April and not race until the horse was giving a very long recovery. I do not think you can say they are being selfish by making the horse's back ... really, they are incredibly UN-selfish ... the horse could make more money and have a more stable life if he remains retired.
What impressed me most is that the news article said that they aim for the Cup Sprint Breeders then the Dubai Golden Shaheen again the following.
