Adding more space in my garage? I will add more room in my garage. I expect it in the corner so I'll have to add only two walls. Is there an easy way to strip the bed and the plaster? I think this will be the hardest part for me.
If you plan to add living space to an existing garage, a permit will be the hardest thing to do, let alone stick the plasterboard.
Most building codes require minimum fire separation between a garage and the rest of the house, and most prohibit entering directly from a garage in a sleeping area.
Although I think the IRC has removed the requirement of a 6 "high reducing gas between a garage and living space, many countries have retained the requirement in their local regulations.
My advice is, before you get too absorbed in the details, such as drywall finishing, check with your local building department to see if what you are planning on doing is legal. You will find things like providing air conditioning, minimum natural lighting and ventilation, emergency egress / access, power requirements, smoke alarms, the minimum size of habitable rooms, and use rooms are all questions that you must meet before obtaining a permit.
In addition, if adding space to your garage will no longer allow a vehicle to ride, you can run against the local zoning ordinances, as well. Many jurisdictions have ordinances requiring a garage for at least one vehicle.
