Congratulations to Avery Johnson getting his jersey retired with the Spurs. Does he deserve it? I know he was not a spectacular offensive player during his career, but he does a lot for the community and an integral part of the Spurs.
I know there will be people who say that his shirt should not AT & T Center because he coaches the Mavs, but I see no problem with that. The jersey was retired for his accomplishments on the court and what he, as a person and a player, has served for the Spurs in San Antonio and in general.
No matter what team you coach now. Just what you did.
I do not know really, I mean he has never been a focal point for the team, he has never been the franchise player, he has never been the best player he has never really been a great player. sure he was a leader of Nice, but I do not know if that makes you eligible to have your jersey retired along with major players.
Avery Johnson has been a great player for Spurs, even if his statistics do not really show it, and it was great for the fans. All around, it's just a good guy with great class and I think he deserved to have his jersey retired. Who cares if he coaches the Mavs now, jersey retirement was for what he did with the Spurs back when he played and not for what he does now.
Yeah, he deserves every bit of it. Tony Parker before he was the General Court of the Spurs. He was their leader on the field with D. Robinson. He has contributed much. He was also one of the main reason why the Spurs are a tough team during his time. It has also meant that the Knicks win againts jumper to win the championship.
Yes, think about it. The Johnson-Robinson Two Punch one of the largest in the history of San Antonio. Johnson has been a big part of the Spurs success and it was a great leader. It's like Karl Malone jersey withdraw without also retiring John Stockton's jersey.
