Can I ask my boss? I just started working.? I just got a new job in Columbus, OH. I do not have a house here yet because I thought I was moving west with my partner, I did not end up doing. I considered this place because it is close to the family, but I do not want to live here. This is the type of employment which the location is not really important because it is a lot of work to the computer and phone. Part of my job is going to Arizona for 30-60 days because of considerations of office space (they have an office too). They were reluctant to raise this question for me, but the truth is that I am so excited to go. I am originally from there and feel like I've waited a lifetime to go back. My question is - is it appropriate to ask the owner if the displacement of Arizona may be permanent for me? I do not want to sound presumptuous or ungrateful for the opportunity to work in Ohio. It's just that it would be a wonderful thing for me personally. If she says no, I would stay in Ohio. FYI, I'm 29 and unmarried, unattached OH. Thank you for your comments!
Do not hesitate to ask you should try to be extra polite and say that you are grateful for the opportunity you have been given and it is possible that you want to move and try to explain your reasons. It is a logical proposition I can not find a reason for her to be offended or angry about it.
Firstly, Congratulations on your new job. I wish you much success.
I would not necessarily wrong to insist that the move will be permanent. However, I would do a little differently. I'd say you tell your new boss that you're really excited about the opportunity to "go home", even if only for 30-60 days. You can follow this statement by saying that if he would good for business, you'll be able to make the move permanent. See what he or she says.
Good Luck.
