California Golf Community

California Golf Community21 years old college student community wants to play golf in college?

Hello im currently 21 years old and I am enrolled in a community college trying to graduate associates (yes I know im slow but least im going to school)

I recently started playing golf again with great enthusiasm, IM being played 5-6 days a week now and I want to play more than take time to rest my muscles. I started golf around 10-11 and played a lot, up to 14-15 participated in numerous local junior tournaments (never win, but placed top3 much), I played half a year of high school golf before moving to Texas to California. After the move I've completely stopped playing golf because financial and other reasons, but now six years later something came over me and I want to play again. When I was 15 I shot anywhere from 75-85, now after 1.5 weeks to start playing my scores were around 80 to 83 (I foresee always less than 80 in one month)

I was wondering if its possible for someone in my position to get involved in a college program and where we are.

you must have a handicap of 2 or better, perhaps best of times 3-4 or more depending on the school - I am 10 handicap and it would take a lot of practice and consistency to get off a 2 handicap - even with a disability you two need a certain type of abstract qualities and a successful amateur trying to get a scholarship - if you decided to walk on a school of 4 years, why not try to play Junior college you are now and see if you can improve to play at a high school?

Go ahead and try at least. Do not be afraid to go try it. What do you have to lose, the worst they can say no.

Make sure you practice, practice, practice, until the day of try outs. If the coaches see you are improving and working hard and are dedicated to this sport, you have a great chance to make the team.

Tryouts Until you need to eat, sleep, breathe, and golf.

Well, I think you'll find what you might have a chance to play for a Div. 3 College and perhaps a Div. 2 schools. It is difficult to say because most schools do not have much Tryouts because golf is so small that the coach is able to recruit more of his team. I would say you should try to talk to as many cars as you can, they will give you the best answer, because they are coaches. In addition, since you already have 2 years of college you'll have trouble finding a team because you only have three years of eligibility which will be a red shirt one year and you can not compete . I would say early Div. 3 schools and add some Div. 2 schools. I would not try to get a Div. A school because you do not have a real chance. For example, most of Div. 1 players have a handicap very very low, probably under a maximum 4. I mean there are colleges out there that you might have a chance to play for, but what is the point of going to a Div. 1 college when they are ranked 100th you can go to a Div. Two schools ranked much higher? One could say that it is a good Div 2 school, but the fact is that it will be much better than a bad Div 1 school. If you know what your handicap is that you can have a better sense of how you stack them. I would say that most DIV. 1 players have a low single-digit handicap on a course that has a slope rating of at least 135, mostly higher. It is great that you try and hope that you find a school to play.
